A Western Legacy in the Heart of Texas: Meet Harry’s Boots

In the heart of the Lone Star State, a retail destination has become a tradition for generations. Today, we’re excited to shine a spotlight on Harry’s Boots, a western apparel and gift store in San Saba, Texas, that’s been outfitting locals (and visitors from far and wide) since 1939. With five historic buildings, a fiercely loyal customer base, and a product selection that covers everything from boots to Brighton, Harry’s is more than just a store—it’s an experience.

In this interview, we caught up Karoline Jordan, General Manager and Buyer at Harry’s to learn about the inspiration behind the business, how they continue to thrive in a rural market, and what trends are keeping their shelves stocked and shoppers coming back for more.

Can you share the inspiration behind Harry’s and what sets it apart from other retail shops?

Harry’s was founded in 1939 and operates today in five historic buildings in downtown San Saba. With over 85 years of history and a strong connection to the local community, Harry’s has earned its reputation as a destination store.

“There’s not only lots of history in the walls, but we’ve been selling to many generations over the years that have their own stories to tell,” she shared. “Being centrally located in Texas, we pull shoppers from all over. I call us a one-stop shop—‘if you can’t find it here, you don’t need it’ when it comes to apparel, footwear, and gift giving!” says Jordan.

From their unique boot displays (one style grouped to catch the eye) to seasonal storytelling through curated tablescapes, Harry’s creates a visually inspiring space that encourages discovery around every corner.

How has the local community’s support impacted your business, especially when times are challenging?

With a population just over 3,000, San Saba might be small, but the sense of community is mighty.

“Everyone supports each other. We’re lucky to be a large retailer in a small town, and the closest mall is about an hour away,” Jordan explained. “But with online shopping on the rise, it’s a daily battle to encourage people to ‘shop local.’”

Harry’s runs monthly promotions, giveaways, and community initiatives to keep shoppers engaged and supported. “Not only do we give back to the community in many ways, but we also try to help out in savings during these harder economic times.”

What advice do you have for a new business owner?

“Take a day off and recharge!” Jordan said with a laugh—but seriously, she emphasizes balance. “Stay true to you and your brand/style, and let your reporting answer whether something is working or not.”

How do you promote your store to attract new customers?

While Harry’s doesn’t sell online, their online presence has a surprising reach. “Once a year I run a ‘like, share, tag’ social media contest to spread the word, but we’ve also seen a lot of success from some of our oldest blog posts bringing in new shoppers year after year,” Jordan shared. “Those Google keywords do work—and one easy click to our site can bring someone through the door looking for a new adventure.”

What trends or popular items have you noticed this season, and how do you select the products you offer in your store?

“I’m super lucky—I run a western store and western is trending right now! That’s been so fun (especially since I wasn’t around for the urban cowboy era).”  Gift buying at Harry’s is a collaborative effort between owner Kynda and Karoline, her daughter. “We just get items that we really like and would buy or use. Make it Western—and we love it even more.”

Whether you’re searching for the perfect pair of boots, a thoughtful gift, or just a dose of authentic Texas charm, Harry’s Boots continues to deliver with heart, heritage, and hospitality. With one foot in tradition and one eye on what’s next, this San Saba staple proves that brick-and-mortar retail is alive and kicking.
