In the heart of historic downtown Natchez, a new story is unfolding. Dixon Books, a brand-new independent bookstore, opened its doors on October 11, 2025, bringing warmth, curiosity, and community to Main Street. Housed in a beautifully restored 1870s building that once held the city’s second-oldest business, the original Dixon’s. The shop feels both fresh and familiar —a nod to Natchez’s rich history and bright future.
A Dream Realized
For owner Jennifer Boone, opening Dixon Books was the culmination of a dream she didn’t even know she had until recently. “I’m brand new to retail and had no idea what to expect,” Jennifer admits. “But opening weekend truly surpassed all of my wildest dreams and expectations. It was such a joy to see people’s faces light up when they walked in and saw all that we had to offer.”
Jennifer’s advice to anyone with an entrepreneurial dream is simple but powerful:
“Do your research, always ask for and be receptive to help, and don’t let fear stand in the way of your vision.”
Blending Books and Beyond
Dixon Books offers more than just a curated selection of titles; it’s a destination for inspiration and discovery. From thoughtful gifts to unique finds, Jennifer knew she wanted to expand beyond books but wasn’t sure where to start. That’s when she connected with her local Road Runners rep.
“Missy completely understood our vision and our energy,” Jennifer says. “She helped us curate the perfect lines and brands to complement our book inventory. We’re so excited to be partnered with Road Runners and couldn’t recommend them more highly!”
A Welcome Addition to Main Street
Dixon Books has quickly become a gathering place in downtown Natchez. It’s a space where locals and visitors alike can browse, linger, and connect. The shop embodies everything that makes independent retail special: a sense of place, a spirit of community, and a commitment to creating experiences you can’t find online.
For Jennifer, it’s only the beginning. “Opening Dixon Books reminded me that sometimes the best stories start when you take a leap,” she says with a smile.
