Charlotte’s passion for retail extends far beyond her own walls. Collaboration and community are central to the Caroline & Company story. “We often collaborate with other locally owned businesses on social media and events,” she explains. “Our neighborhood shopping area, River Ranch, hosts events around holidays to help promote shopping local. We support many charitable organizations and consider it our duty to give back to the community that has supported us for 28 years.”
From charity fundraisers to shop-local celebrations, Caroline & Company continues to be a cornerstone of Lafayette’s retail scene. They are a shining example of how giving back fuels loyalty and growth.
Evolving with the Times
“Retail is so very different from when I opened 28 years ago,” Charlotte reflects. “From websites, online ordering, and social media to email marketing, the retail space has evolved so much. But one thing that’s remained constant is the importance of working with local sales reps.”
Charlotte credits her long-standing relationships with reps as a key part of her success. “The relationships I’ve formed at market and on the road have really helped protect and grow my business.”
Merchandising with Heart
At 20,000 square feet, Caroline & Company is a visual delight. “We’re constantly rearranging the store, changing up displays, and cross-merchandising,” Charlotte says. “We try to keep things fresh, neat, and well-stocked with best sellers.”
Her philosophy is simple- keep things beautiful, organized, and full of discovery. The result? A space that feels both inspiring and approachable.
Rep Relationships That Make a Difference
As a long-time Road Runners retailer, Charlotte knows the value of great partnerships. “There are so many great lines in Road Runners,” she shares. “Splendid Iris and The Darling Effect are constant re-order lines, and Thomas Blonde has quickly become a customer (and staff) favorite. Boston International napkins sell really well, and Shannon Martin cards are great!”
Strong rep relationships and well-chosen lines help keep Caroline & Company ahead of the curve while delivering the products her shoppers love most.
Staying True to What Customers Love
As the retail landscape continues to shift, Charlotte remains rooted in what makes her business thrive: authenticity, service, and heart. “It’s important to keep inventory fresh and on-trend,” she says, “but also to stay true to what your customers love most about shopping with you. It’s easy for them to order online, but they still want the experience, the customer service, gift wrapping, and personal touch that only a local store can provide.”
